One of the earliest known formulations of the ideas, which are now known as the law of attraction is contained in the 1906 book ‘Thought Vibration’ or ‘The Law of Attraction in the Thought World’ by William Walker Atkinson[4], editor of New Thought magazine. In the first half of the 20th century there were dozens of books which addressed the topic under various names of ‘positive thinking’ and the ‘Law of Attraction’. And, most recently (2006) a film named ‘The Secret’ was released around the law of attraction. This was later developed into a book of the same name.

The many proponents of the modern law of attraction believe that it has its roots in quantum physics claiming that our thoughts have energy, vibration, and resonance which attract other thoughts of the same energy. However, criticism of the law of attraction also comes from many and different directions. Within spiritual circles, the law of attraction has been criticized for conflating the ego with the higher self, narcissism and promoting thinking that supposedly was humanity’s leading edge millennia ago, but now is developmentally in its early cognitive stage.

Irrespective of whatever you believe or don’t believe about the source of the law of attraction understand that these concepts are ancient. The concepts have been expressed (in different form) in every religion known to man, across time. Could all of humanity have made up the same ‘flawed’ story? That’s unlikely.

Ultimately, the use of the law of attraction comes back to this. You know that when you sit in your car and turn the ignition key that the engine starts. Do you have to know HOW the engine works to be able to drive your car? No, you don’t. You just turn the key, and it works. The LOA works, history tells us this. Now, all we have to do is understand how to “turn the key”.

Of all the natural laws the single most powerful law is the law of attraction which says: “That which is likened unto itself is drawn” or more simply put, “Like attracts like”.

The point here is to “begin”, wherever you are in your own thinking. As the Chinese Proverb states, “A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step”. Take the first step.

1. Be very clear about exactly what it is that you desire to manifest in your life.

2. Focus on it.

3. Write it down in great detail, and give it all your positive energy.

4. Feel good about it as it’s your dream.

Now, one way you can change your energy frequency is with positive thoughts. One very powerful way to begin this change is to become consciously grateful for all that you already have. By using grateful, positive thoughts and feelings… and by focusing on your dreams (what is), rather than focusing on your frustrations (perceived as what is NOT)) you change the frequency of your own energy, and the law of attraction begins to bring positive things and experiences (of the same frequency) into your life.

“As a man thinketh, So is he…”.

It is vital to keep working on maintaining a positive inner dialogue (that voice in your head) free from the toxicity of negative thinking. This is where our main challenge always is, because we have lived with our own negativity for a long time (usually).

Have patience, be kind to yourself and keep working.
