Commercial Duct Design

Commercial duct design is a true art. It requires an innate ability to visualize how the ducts will flow through a building without interfering with the structures already in place. Due to the complexity of the design and unique issues faced with commercial systems, it is usually advised that an expert be called in to handle the commercial duct design.

Be prepared for the expert to ask for a copy of your buildings blue prints. These will be required to properly design the ducts and ensure that they will not get in the way of any other structures that are already in place. Ensure that you, or someone from your team, is available to answer questions. Designing commercial ducts is more than just an art; it is also a science. Information, such as what the general occupancy of the buildings are and the typical output of the HVAC system, will be required for the design to go smoothly.

Expect commercial duct design to be a relatively long process. This is not going to be a task that will be completed during a lunch meeting, for instance. Even the smallest of commercial duct designs take even the best and most experienced designers at least a few days to come up with. Several weeks or even a few months is not unheard of for a quality designer to come up with a commercial duct design for a large commercial building. Therefore, it is essential that you do not wait until the last minute to bring the designing expert on staff. You should be looking for the perfect commercial duct designer as soon as you have decided to install a commercial HVAC system.

When looking for someone to design commercial ducts, it is almost always best to look for someone to do the job based upon a referral. Almost anyone can call themselves an expert at designing commercial ducts, but there is no true way to verify this claim. Once ducts have been designed, it is nearly impossible to redesign them without starting all over from scratch. This is why it is so important that a quality expert be found from the beginning. Though more money will be spent in hiring this individual to complete the task than someone that designs residential ducts, the extra money will be very well spent. Hiring someone that is not properly equipped to perform the job only wastes time and money.

Be prepared to shop around for a quality person to do the job. Commercial duct design is not a common job, nor is it a common field to specialize in. However, it is absolutely essential for the well-being of the HVAC system as a whole that the ducts be properly designed from the beginning. Feel free to interview and check references of as many people as you need to in order to come across the right one to design the ducts for your commercial property. It may take a while, but the wait will be worth it.
