What is addiction? According to Webster’s dictionary, addiction is the act of putting oneself to a habit. Meaning a person is reliant on something to the point of obsession. Such habits are generally viewed as harmful, since they can be uncontrollable at times.
What is the cause of addiction? Some addictions are traced to sorrowful incidents encountered during childhood. Often children who are prone to addiction are those who have undergone physical maltreatment, embarrassment, degradation and those who are neglected.
Bad habits most people are addicted to, are excess alcohol intake, drugs, smoking, gambling, sex and over eating. Do you experience being addicted? It is a very difficult task of getting rid of something, when you are used to it.
Bad habits can be controlled and removed from our life. Having a craving is awful and distressing. It will oblige you to live with it and rule your life. It is hard to resist because it’s always on your mind. We rationalize just one more. It will keep us hooked in that, it becomes very difficult to eliminate.
Don’t believe in these in these fallacies the truth is you can withstand it. As you begin to resist and continue resisting it will eventually pass. Believe you can over power your urges and you will.
Some habits are not harmless but if you do any thing to excess it can be bad. Drinking alcohol occasionally is not harmful but if it causes you to drink every day the effect to you would be detrimental.
With bad habits that are detrimental you can always go to a rehabilitation center. How ever you don’t want yourself to be stuck in a rehab center just to run away from vices. The best thing to do is just don’t let your urges overpower you. In simple terms, don’t let them lead you to addiction.
You may think that you are to weak to be able to resist your urges on your own. This is not true believe in yourself. Just follow these simple steps. Slow down, set back and delay. When it attacks your brain, and it keeps on harassing you, stop and start using your self talk. What we think about we bring about so don’t think about your habit any more.
Stay away from places that have any thing to do with your addictions. If you are trying to quit drinking or smoking stay out of bars. Mingle with people that don’t drink or smoke. It doesn’t have to be forever just until you no longer crave your addiction. Find substitutes and every time you are tempted look at your list and find the best replacement.
Affirmations, self talk and self-motivation are the best ways to fight an addiction. If you believe you can remove a addiction from your life you can. If the case is severe seek an expert or Doctor don’t let something control you for any reason.
